Beyoncé’s Fandom

Even though I am a huge Taylor Swift fan and apart of the Swiftie fandom, for this project I am going to dive into the BeyHive Fandom. Beyoncé is another female artist I love and she also promotes confidence and standing up for what is right.

#1 First Networked Platform: TikTok

I immediately thought of TikTok for the first platform because of the “Mute” challenge. Basically, in Beyonce’s song “ENERGY,” there is a lyric that says “Look around everybody on mute.” Now it is a competition, mainly posted on TikTok, for when she performs this song to see what city can hold their best mute or pause. It has become a viral sensation and promotes the fandom to post about it. It is a friendly competition in the community.

This trend has helped Beyonce’s concert gain great PR and makes you want to try the challenge and attend her concert. Beyond the challenge, there are tons of TikTok pages related to all things Beyonce. Similar to Taylor Swift, these pages talk about Beyonce’s songs, her iconic moments and tour updates. Some hashtags involve #BeyHive #BeyonceRenaissance #BlueIvy #MuteChallenge #Beyonce. This community also prospers on other social media platforms.

#2 Second Networked Platform: Instagram

The BeyHive is also alive and well on Instagram- as well as Beyonce herself. She recently shared pictures from her Renaissance Movie Premiere with her extravagant outfits and guest appearances (Taylor was there!). This made Beyonce lovers on Instagram freak out. They reposted the outfits on stories and even made fan art. Below is some fan art created about the premeire and her album.

I see similarities with the BeyHive and Swiftie fandom. Even though it is two completely different artists, there are similar core values of community, passion, support and uplifting one another.
